No doubt, one of Africa’s biggest export in the music sphere, Davido’s trajectory in the entertainment industry has remain spectacular since he dropped his first project. Davido is one of Africa’s most decorated artiste having won over 30 awards international awards for his musical prowess. With a discography attesting to over a billion global streams and 400 million video views, the Afrobeats forerunner has very much established himself as a force to be reckoned with.
Davido started out as producer while in America but his switch to been a musician has turn out to be groundbreaking decision for the pop star. He has enjoyed wide support and acceptance since dropping his first set of musical projects; “Back When,” “Dami Duro,” “Gobe,” “Aye” and “Skelewu.”
Recently, visuals from Davido’s single “One Milli” was awarded the best music video at the Headies 2020 award ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria. The video which was produced by talented music video director, ‘Dir. K’ saw off competition from Eli by Fireboy produced by Clarence Peters, Smile from Wizkid produced by Meji Alabi, Billionaire from Teni produced by Tg Omori and Shekere from Yemi Alade produced by Ovie Etseyatse.
Directed by Aremu Qudus popularly known ‘Dir. K’. The talented director is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s most sought after music video directors after working on numerous projects in the country.
“the video that brought me to limelight is Case by Teniola. That video changed a lot of things in my life, and then Sensima by Skibii sealed the whole deal,” said Dir. K during an interview with City People.
One Milli video which featured Davido’s fiancé Chioma Rowland has garnered over 9.7 million views on YouTube. In the video, the artiste displayed a colorful outdoor wedding celebration and showcasing of African traditional style.
Further, the two minutes, 42 seconds video explained some of the lyrical content of the award-winning song. It showed the music star Davido in company of close family asking to marry his fiancée Chioma, who was also the bride in the video.
The video also showed the lovers in a show of love and romance on camera with soft touches. Looking at the video, the director brilliantly explained the Nigerian local tradition of paying a bride price before one takes a woman as a wife.
