A-Q’s visuals for the Masterpiece ‘Agu Nji Di Men’ turns 5

Recently winning Rap album of the year for his masterpiece ‘God’s Engineering’ at the 14th Headies, rapper Gilbert Bani who goes by the stage name A-Q has been in the Nigerian music industry for over 2 decades. After signing his first record deal in 2001 for Big Leaf Records, A-Q left 2 years after to work independently. He got an international distribution deal in 2005 after releasing the compilation album ‘Listen and Understand. In 2006 he put out a mix-tape titled ’Maga Must Pay’.

   After graduating in 2010 from the University of Lagos he continued music and started co-running the label Hustle Inc, where he started a weekly freestyle Black Friday Twitter Freestyles which gave him validation from online fans including Legendary producer Don Jazzy.

   In 2016, A-Q’s single ‘Agu Ji Ndi Men’ was nominated for Best Rap Single at THE HEADIES 2016. He was also part of a rap campaign ‘LAMBAugust’. At the 13th Headies A-Q won Lyricist On The Roll for his album with Loose Kaynon ‘Crown’ which is one of the most prestigious awards for Nigerian based rappers. A-Q left Chocolate City to start an incubator for Sub-Saharan artistes with music distribution giant Africori Music Group.


Directed by Fizzle and Bizzle Films ‘Agu Ji Ndi Men’ means ‘Men were held by the death-grip of starvation’. The song features Chuza and the video sees appearance from his usual collaborators Beats by Jayy and Hustle Ink’s Ji. The Video officially dropped on the 26th of February, 2016.

   The video starts off with the chorus being repeated by A-Q as he drives in a sports car with Hustle Ink’s Ji. A-Q begins rapping by narrating his grass to grace story, with anecdotes from his past life about how he and his friends had to contribute money to eat, ride the bus and even add money to fuel their friend’s car so they go to the club. He tells us about how the police stopped him and he had to contribute money to pay them and also get harassed for defaulting.

   The next scene shows how his friend Jide, who was a fraudster bailing him out whenever he was short of cash because of his girlfriend. A-Q is then seen sporting a red shirt surrounded by a crowd as he raps on about the things men are willing to do for money. The video climaxes as A-Q ends with a punchline as the crowd moves to the beat.
